A poem that I've Written

I recently wrote a poem on the dangers of workaholism. It's quite funny, but maybe it's Ok. Hey I may even have discovered a new talent in myself! A budding poet as well as a writer--nothing better. Well here it is. Please comment and tell me how it is:-

THE DANGERS OF WORKAHOLISM
You IT people,
Always on the phone,
Don't have time to eat,
Even when you're home.

Do you feel any remorse
About what kind of course
Your children are taking?
Whether they're into baking,
Reading, writing, or nothing at all,
Just sitting around waiting for the sky to fall.

Really, though you may find this very funny,
I wonder what makes you do this to us?
Is it the money?
Or is it so that you can satisfy your workaholic craving,
Of working all day, all night long?

Though the situation may not be so bad I confess,
Is it good for your health to be under so much stress?
When you sit and you work and you eat that junk food
My God! Look at the oil on that, dude!

When your back starts to hurt and your head starts to ache,
You may find that there is nothing to take
The place of a bed, soft and warm,
And then you realise that you are not in good form.

So I beg you all, please awake!
Workaholism is really no piece of cake.
Remember my warning, I'm ringing a bell.
Now the rest of the story, time and your conscience will tell.

Great job, Aboli. You're really a witty, creative, modest and beautiful girl.

Aboli, who told you IT people work all the time? They surf on the net most of the time and then realize they have not worked till 5PM and hence start working in evening.

But, I agree with you that one should live a balanced life and too much work is not good for your health.

Great job with the poem!

you have captured the point very well; could not have worded it better.

Aboli,

I thought you were a very talented girl that will make it big some day, till I saw your poem about IT people. Didn't your dad tell you IT people can't take criticism? ;-) (well, do not include this in the poem rev 2.0)

Anyways, keep it up. Good writing that I expect from a good (and voracious) reader like you. (check that spelling) I still believe you are a talented girl who will make it big some day (or you can think I am giving you a second chance) BTW, get that Omkar dude into reading and writing too. He is having too much fun troubling you all day.

Aboli, I'm speechless. You have captured the problems of working in the IT industry so well. You are going to make it real big one day. Trust me!

It's true that ourparents work very hard, more than anything, they do it for us. The problem arises when they forget that what we need as children is their time! And I loved the way you have put that message there.

I know how it must be like 'coz I was your mom's team member:)

Great job. May be you should send it to your Dad's boss and ask him to pass it on to his boss and so on.

IT is really simple, RAT race. Prize for top RAT(s) money, title...Ha! Ha!

Make sure you keep yourself engaged in literature and be the best .(otherwise you will put in Engineering college before you know! and will be part of the RAT race)

Good Luck.

That is a refreshing poem ... It is so prominent in IT world ..

But you know what, we have still not figured out the solution to the situation. We dont know how to get out of this mould with these 12 hrs time differences and late night calls etc. etc.. Maybe you might write the next poem to give a refreshing idea to change our work style....

Great work. Keep it up.

Great poem, Aboli!

It's always the balance in life in pursuing multiple directions that's more difficult than going in one particular direction.

Keep up the good and creative work you are pursuing.

Aboli - This is writen right from your heart and I can feel your pain and relate. It's your job as a daughter to make your father understand. When I was growing up, this was not possible but in today's world, the young people (especially women) are a force to be reckoned with. Keep up the prodding, your Dad will live longer for sure because of you!

Aboli, you should get your poem published in a newspaper. Working parents always feel guilty about the long hours they keep and wonder what their kids feel...but just don't have the time to find out :). You have eloquently given voice to all the kids out there and made us stop and re-think our priorities. Great job!

We work and work, day and night
Keeping your future, well in sight

To give you more, than what we got
Comforts of life, and fun a lot

Ofcourse:

Hoping to do this, just short-term
Thinking it'll payoff, more long-term

Below were other lines, but then they just apply to me! ;) .. maybe your Dad as well.. ask him to take it up seriously.

So we enjoy golf, in our sunset-time]
